Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation refers to a surgical procedure that enlarges a woman’s breasts with the use of prosthetic implants. Breast implants

Breast implants come in a variety of shapes, textures, sizes and composition. The outer shell can be either smooth or textured (rough). The shapes of the implants can be “anatomic” (or pear-shaped), round, and high or low “profile.” There are silicone and saline filled implants. The sizes vary quite dramatically depending on the shape of the implant and the diameter of its base. There is no one “right” implant for every patient. Depending on patient anatomic characteristics including native breast tissue volume and chest width, one particular implant may be more appropriate than another. These are considerations to be discussed with Dr. Ha.

Breast lift (Mastopexy)

Breast lift or Mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to lift and reshape sagging, elongated, and/or deflated breasts. Unlike breast reductions, where significant amounts of breast tissue are removed, a mastopexy simply reshapes the existing breast tissue, thereby preserving any existing volume. There are different techniques (and thus, different scar patterns) available, depending on the degree of lifting required.

Breast reconstruction

Breast reconstruction refers to a series of surgical procedures to re-create breasts after mastectomies. These are usually performed as a result of breast cancer; the procedures must be integrated and coordinated into the overall plan for treatment as part of a team approach. Reconstruction is performed by transferring flaps of a patients own tissue (muscle and/or fat), placing implants, or both. A consultation with Dr. Ha can help you determine which of these procedures is most appropriate for you.

Breast reduction

Breast reduction refers to a procedure that is designed to make overly enlarged breasts smaller and to provide a concurrent “lift.” Women who are good candidates have typical symptoms of back, neck, and shoulder pain that are a constant burden in their daily lives. It may affect their ability to exercise, work, or live life without constant pain or requiring medications (pain relievers or muscle relaxants). The surgery can provide tremendous symptomatic relief and truly change the lives of these patients.

Gynecomastia (Male Breast Enlargement)

Gynecomastia or male breast enlargement can be corrected through surgery. Depending on the degree of the enlargement and the characteristics of the enlarged tissue, either direct excision or liposuction is recommended. A newer technique, Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction, is very effective in treating the frequently dense male breast tissue, while minimizing external scarring. A consultation with Dr. Ha will help determine which treatment will be the most appropriate.
